You Matter
September 20, 2011As I am writing (or I should say processing) these words, I can’t help but wonder about you, yes… you! Where are you in this moment? Is it morning for you right now, or are you just getting a late afternoon break from serving your family all day? Perhaps you are at work and wondering, “Why do I have to have three jobs just to make ends meet?” Then again you may be grabbing that last cup of coffee and a quick read before you head out the door, or you could be in the hospital being read to so that you might be distracted before the surgery. Maybe you’re alone and just really tired of feeling that way. No matter where you are as you read these words I want you to know that You Matter!
That’s the one thing we all have in common; we all matter. Sometimes we forget this, and other times we look at the wrong sources to tell us we matter. The truth is still the same, we matter or we wouldn’t be alive. Think about it for a moment, no matter how you think you got here, whether from a monkey who was once “lucky mud” or a creation that was kissed by God and given breath, the fact is that you are uniquely equipped for relationships. You cannot survive without them, and this fact resonates loudly in our world. You Matter!
How did we come to matter so much, and what significance do we really have in our world? The truth of the Bible is this: Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.” It could be debatable whether or not we are really significant if we were just “lucky mud”. It could even be possible to feel as though we don’t matter all that much because God just created us like everything else, but the heart of the issue that makes it impossible for you not to matter is the phrase “In the image of God He made them.” Wow! Image bearer, you may have never thought of yourself that way, but God does! He wants you to know what a significant life is like as His image bearer. In fact, He came as the man Jesus Christ to live life as one of us, and to purchase life for us. As Jesus said “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” Think of that, life that is full, a life that really matters not just for now, but forever. Everyone with whom you have contact, and everyone whom has contact with you are relating as Image bearers with one another; husband to wife, parent to child, brother to sister, friend to friend, and stranger to stranger. Oh how full life will be if we will realize this wonderful truth; we are people who matter to the world! What would your life be like if you found your life to be of consequence as an “Image Bearer” that really mattered? It is my prayer for all of you that no matter where you are right now, you discover life to its fullest.
You Matter!
