Values

Authentic Worship

Worship is one of the most important things we do at Evergreen.  As the people of God we believe we are a group that has been redeemed.  This means that we have been saved from all the scars and the fears that we carry around with us.  A long time ago, when Adam and Eve choose their own way instead of the way of their Creator, they brought a curse on every human being that ever followed them.

But that Creator has worked since that time, and ultimately through the death and resurrection of Jesus, to heal us from the shame and pain of that curse.

When we worship, we do it happily and joyfully because of the amazing thing that He has done for us.  Many describe our worship as active, joyful, and rich.  Our praise band is composed of some of the best musicians in East Tennessee and they gladly bring us before our great Creator – Redeemer in a vibrant way.

Authentic Discipleship

Because we start out life as fallen humans unable to live up to our full potential, it can be difficult to learn to live like a Christian once we make up our minds to be changed.  The Bible says that we should be transformed into people who look like Jesus.  In fact, the word Christian literally means, “little Christ.”  The process of becoming more like Him is called sanctification (set apart).  We are sanctified through a method called discipleship.

Discipleship is one of the things we emphasize at Evergreen. If you would like to be a part of a church that challenges you to grow in your faith, you belong at Evergreen.   The leaders at Evergreen are committed to seeing those in our church become shaped more into the image of Christ by His grace; they see this as one of our top priorities.

At Evergreen discipleship takes place primarily through relationships in our Grace Groups.  A Grace Group will provide a place where you can learn the truths of the Bible, grow in your relationship with Christ and others around you, serve your community and your church, and reach out with the grace of Jesus Christ.  This is obedience to the two great commands of Jesus to love God and love your neighbor.

This process of discipleship will help you grow into a mature believer who is engaged in changing your community for good.

Authentic Fellowship

Evergreen is committed to being a community of grace and warmth.  We know that we have no real hope without Jesus Christ.  We recognize that we are people who have been completely accepted based on the work of Jesus.  If you join our fellowship we will feel the same way about you.

We are no better or worse than anyone else around.  Our members do not come to church to pretend to be special.  We come to church to be authentic, and that kind of authenticity breeds humility and real relationships.

When we take down the barriers of pride and protecting our self image, we are free to engage in relationships that bring life.

Authentic Telling

At Evergreen we believe the Bible tells a true story.  An eternal story about God’s rescuing love for His people from a creation that was spoiled to a people that are redeemed.  This story is a story full of romance, war, greed,  terrorism and ultimately heroism.  The central theme of this winding  story is that God is working to make things the way they were supposed  to be in the first place.

We love to tell this story at Evergreen.  We hope that everyone at Evergreen will find that their own  stories are influenced and even transformed by this one big story.

We  tell these stories.

We tell our story and we tell the bigger  story that brings meaning to all of our little stories.  We would love  to know your story.

Authentic Serving

Jesus liked to repeat things to his disciples.  Actually I suppose he  needed to.  They were a lot like us, it took them a long time to learn  something.

One of the things he taught them a few times was  that the way to be a leader is to serve.

Evergreen church wants  to lead Sevier County.  We want to point people here toward a good and  gracious King.  We would live to see authentic discipleship spread through Sevier County, East Tennessee, and throughout the world.  The only way we  can see this happen is if we lead our community and if we want to lead,  we need to serve.

We believe that it is our calling to serve this  community.  Sometimes we serve in spiritual ways.  But we also serve in  tangible ways that we hope will benefit this community and demonstrate how Christ’s Kingdom brings hope and a better life.

If you or your group  has a need that we can meet, please don’t hesitate to let us know.  We  are here to serve you.
